FILTERS
There are three basic types of filters on the market today 
They all have their good and bad points.
Sand filters tend to look like this:
and they use a sand media which needs replacement over a period of:
white.............10 years
brown..............4 years
Filter sand is a special sand. Everyday sand will not work in a sand filter.
Some larger sand filters use a sand and gravel filter media but typically are only used on commercial pools.
Diatomasus earth filters usually look like this:
and use a diatomasus earth media that needs to be replaced at the end of every filter cycle. It is sold in 10,25,50 and 100 Lb. bags. Sometimes it is sold in varies pre-measured weights and packed in boxes
Cartridge filters usually look like:
They utilize a paper or fabric cartridge that it removed and washed off after every filter cycle. They require replacement when worn-out. They are perfect for spas,very small above ground-pools, storable pools or other small capacity bodies of water which back washing is not possible.
